The Maguire Neuropsychiatric Institute of Oroville Hospital

The institute is named in honor of the life work of the late Gerald Eugene Maguire MD, who dedicated his life’s work to championing for the underserved mental health community in California. Dr. Maguire brought much-needed psychiatric health care to our region as the founding director of what is now known as Butte County Behavioral Health. Dr. Maguire also affected policies across our State of California with his creation of compassionate and effective programs that serve as models today. His trailblazing career was centered on his passion for the humane treatment of those suffering from serious mental illness, creating a novel means of caring for the underserved. Towards the end of his career as a physician, he was especially driven to address the impact of the Camp Fire on the people affected in his hometown of Paradise.
The Maguire Neuropsychiatric Institute of Oroville Hospital will soon begin training the next generation of psychiatrists through its newly established residency training program and will begin providing psychiatric inpatient hospital services in Oroville. The inaugural residency class of psychiatry residents at The Maguire Neuropsychiatric Institute of Oroville Hospital will commence in July 2025.
