Program Rotation

Resident Year 1:

  • Primary Care – Perform initial evaluations and ongoing care of patients admitted to the general internal medicine service.
  • Neurology – Consult patients with neurological disorders and learn about acute and chronic neurological disorders in the general hospitalized population. 
  • Inpatient Psychiatry – Conduct a comprehensive mental status examination and discuss significant treatment strategies for major psychiatric disorders.
  • Emergency Psychiatry – Acquire the skill to perform emergency psychiatric evaluations and how to use acute psychopharmacologic intervention in psychiatric emergencies.
  • Emergency Medicine –Acquire the knowledge to collect essential information from medical interviews, physical exams, medical records, diagnostic procedures, and sub-special information. 


Resident Year 2:

  • Inpatient Psychiatry – Conduct a comprehensive mental status examination and discuss significant treatment strategies for major psychiatric disorders.
  • Emergency Psychiatry – Acquire the skill to perform emergency psychiatric evaluations and how to use acute psychopharmacologic intervention in psychiatric emergencies.
  • Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry –Learn how to construct consultation services for patients on various medical and surgical services.
  • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry – Treat common psychiatric illnesses in children and adolescents and identify severe conditions that may require specialty care.
  • Addiction Medicine –Evaluate and manage patients with substance abuse and dependence disorders, including those with co-occurring psychiatric disorders.
  • Forensic Psychiatry –Evaluate patients for their risk of self-harm to others, their ability to make decisions about their care and treatments, their competency, disability, and civil commitment.  
  • Geriatric Psychiatry –Evaluate, diagnose, and manage psychiatric illness and geriatric patients with dementia, neuropsychiatric, and psychiatric symptoms.


Resident Year 3:

  • Outpatient and Community Clinic –Acquire and practice skills in diagnosing, treating, and managing psychiatric illness across the continuum of care. 


Resident Year 4: 

  • Administrative Psychiatry –Supervise an interdisciplinary treatment team at Oroville Hospital under faculty supervision, gaining extensive experience in utilization review, quality assurance, and performance improvement.
