Oroville Hospital Corporate Board Honored by Assemblyman Dan Logue and Presentation by Dr. Richard Thorp


Oroville, CA  ̶  On Tuesday evening, November 12, 2013, Oroville Hospital held its semiannual Corporate Membership Meeting.  At the meeting, Oroville Hospital was honored by the presence of Dan Logue, a Republican Assemblyman who represents California’s 3rd Assembly district and an amazing presentation by Dr. Richard Thorp, the president of the California Medical Association.

The meeting started with a Resolution presented to Oroville Hospital by Assemblyman Logue.  He stated how proud he was of Oroville Hospital and all the achievements they have received throughout the year.  One achievement included Oroville Hospital being the only hospital in Butte County to receive Healthgrade’s Patient Safety Award for 2013.  Dan Logue spoke of how he looks to Oroville Hospital for being a leader in the North state and uses Oroville as an example of an exemplar hospital when speaking in Congress.  Overall, Oroville Hospital was honored to be recognized by the assemblyman for all their high achievements over the past year.

Assemblyman Logue is a fiscal conservative, small business owner, and an opponent of high taxation and government waste.  In the Assembly, he serves in the leadership role of Chief Whip for the Republican Caucus and is responsible for coordinating voting and managing messaging for the Republican Caucus. He is the Vice-Chair of the influential Assembly Health Committee. He is also a member of the Assembly Budget Committee, the Elections and Redistricting Committee, the Budget Sub Committee 3, which oversees the resources and transportation components of the state budget, and he sits on the critical Assembly Transportation Committee.

After Assembly Logue presented his resolution, Dr. Richard Thorp took the podium to conduct a presentation on the future of healthcare and the affects it has on physicians.  His presentation included getting physicians more involved in healthcare reform, the effects of the Affordable Care Act, and the importance of having an electronic health record that is integrated with other systems to increase patient safety and efficiency. 

Dr. Richard Thorp has been practicing General Internal Medicine in Butte County for the past 38 years.  Hedeveloped an interest in health policy and health system reform while serving as president of his local county medical society in 1994.   In 1994 he was the incorporating agent of a county wide Management Service Organization (MSO) involving PPO, HMO physician groups and the area hospitals.  In October of 2012 he was elected President-Elect of the California Medical Association.
