Prostate enlargement occurs naturally as men age. It will affect approximately 50 percent of men between the ages of 51 and 60 and up to 90 percent of men over the age of 80. As men mature the prostate can become swollen, blocking urinary flow and leading to cancer.

However, prostate cancer treatment is complex. A man’s age, overall health, and how aggressive or widely-spread the prostate cancer is, factor into a treatment plan. Each man’s cancer is unique; therefore each treatment will be unique. That is why discussing options with your doctor is extremely important.

Our providers are some of the few surgeons in Northern California who use the state-of-the-art GreenLight XPS for Photoselective Vaporization of benign prostatic tissue (BPH). GreenLight XPS is an innovative laser treatment that combines the effectiveness of transurethral prosthetic resection with the safety and ease of a minimally invasive procedure. Unlike original laser and thermal technologies, it immediately removes enlarged prostatic tissue using a high-powered Green Lite. The laser energy vaporizes and precisely removes obstructing prosthetic tissue in a virtually bloodless procedure. Most patients treated with the GreenLight XPS are released from the hospital within a few hours of the procedure and are allowed to return home without a catheter. Many can return to normal, non-strenuous activity within days.
