Urogynecology

Urogynecology specializes in pelvic floor disorder care for women, which includes pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. The pelvic floor is the set of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissue in the low section of the pelvis, which provides support for the women's internal organs, including the bowel, bladder, uterus, vagina, and rectum.

Pelvic Floor Disorder is the weakening of the connective tissue caused by excessive strain on the pelvis due to childbirth, repeated strenuous activity, menopause, or pelvic surgery. Heavy weight lifting, tobacco use, and genetics can also play a role in causing the weakening of the pelvic floor.

Leaving Pelvic Floor Disorder untreated can cause numerous damage to the pelvic floor, which can contribute to:

• Urinary incontinence: urinary leakage
• Pelvic Organ prolapse: weakened vaginal muscles
• Difficulty urinating or moving bowels
• Pain and discomfort in the lower back area, pelvis, or bladder pressure
• Fistulas: abnormal hole between the vagina and rectum, urethra, or bladder.

• Reconstructive surgery, including pelvic organ prolapse, fecal incontinence, and urinary incontinence
• Multidisciplinary treatment with GI, CRS, GYN, urology, and physical therapy
