Dr. Alexander Tonthat, MD, is a gastroenterologist with specialized training in endoscopic procedures. He completed both his residency in Internal Medicine and subsequently fellowship in Gastroenterology and Liver disease at the University of Southern California. Dr. Tonthat earned his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics from UCLA before attending the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University for medical school. He specializes in treating liver, biliary, and pancreatic diseases as well as disorders of the entire alimentary tract. Dr. Tonthat’s approach to care involves treating each patient as he would a family member, striving to provide the compassionate and personalized care he would want for his own loved ones.
Dr. Tonthat is passionate about helping patients, a drive inspired by witnessing the immediate relief many experience after treatment for gastroenterological issues. His career goal in Butte County is to provide essential services to underserved communities. He values the diverse perspectives he has gained from working in multicultural environments, which have enriched his approach to patient care.
In his free time, Dr. Tonthat enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, basketball, and fishing. He is fluent in English and Vietnamese and understands Spanish well. He is family-oriented and enjoys spending time with his brother, who is also a provider at Oroville Hospital.
