  • Orient new employees and assist with education and training of other team members

Responsibilities:

Job Summary

 Works in the Endoscopy Department, under the direction of the registered nurses, providing the endoscopists with assistance related to gastrointestinal procedures and related work, as required.  Assists the nurse to provide care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Duties

  • Under the direction of the Endoscopist Physician, assists during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to provide optimal patient outcomes
  • Able to trouble shoot and resolve endoscopy equipment problems, pre, mid & post procedures
  • Cleaning and restocking of Endoscopy carts
  • Knowledge of where all equipment and supplies are located in the department
  • Efficient and orderly set up of and assistance with endoscopic procedures. Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  • Responsible for transport of pathology specimens to laboratory
  • Responsible for the cleaning, reprocessing of endoscopes and re-usable accessories including:
    • Cleaning, testing and storage of endoscopes
    • Use of proper techniques using ultrasonic washers including quality testing and chemical handling
    • Terminal cleaning processes
    • Biological monitoring
    • Quality assurance testing
  • Responsible for endoscopy room cleaning
  • Endoscopic Procedural Technician must be able to set up and assist with the following procedures:
    • Bronchoscopies, with or without Biopsies, Trans-Bronchial Needle
    • Aspirations, Bronchial Alveolar Lavage, Brushings and Lavage
    • Colonoscopy with or without Biopsies, Polypectomies
    • Gastroscopy with or without Biopsies, Polypectomies
    • Endoscopic Ultrasound
  • Knowledge and use of all physician used endoscopic emergency equipment to include but not limited to Variceal Banding, Electrocautery, Thermal Probes, Injectors, Clipping Devices
  • Knowledge of standard precautions and other isolation precautions to keep themselves, other staff members and patients safe
    • Follows applicable policies and procedures
    • Wears proper PPE as needed for procedures, and for cleaning and reprocessing equipment
  • Transports patients between departments.  Greets patients, visitors, family and friends
  • Responsible for keeping equipment in excellent working condition
  • Takes call as assigned
  • Participate in unit meetings and educational activities in order to develop skills and grow in awareness
  • Constant updating of skills by attending in-service classes
  • Attends 75% of scheduled staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Lifting Requirements:

Work area is well lighted and ventilated. Regularly exposed to the risks of blood borne and airborne diseases. Contact with patients in a wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to noise, chemicals, communicable diseases, and hazardous materials. Wears personal protective equipment as required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel objects, or controls; each with hands and arms, and to talk to hear.  The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods, occasionally required to sit, balance; stoop, kneel or crouch.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with help.
