While You're an Inpatient
About
Your Hospital Stay

Your medical care
While you are hospitalized, your doctor is responsible for your medical
treatment. Your doctor is a member of Oroville Hospital's medical
staff, a highly qualified group of physicians who have been carefully
screened and selected to care for you.
We care about our patients
Under the leadership and guidance of your doctor, you will be cared
for by a trained team of healthcare professionals who will plan
and institute a treatment program designed to help you recover from
your illness or surgery.
Your healthcare team may include registered nurses, licensed vocational
nurses, certified nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, physical
therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, medical
technologists, radiological technicians, pharmacists, patient services
personnel, discharge planners, registered dietitians, and other
medical professionals.
Medication
Your doctor will prescribe any medications you may need during your
hospital stay. Your nurse will administer these medications as prescribed
by your doctor. Please do not bring medicines from home including
over-the-counter items such as herbs or pain relievers. This is
necessary so that your doctor can control your medication while
you are hospitalized.
If you do bring medications with you, we ask that you send
them home with a family member. Medications which are not sent home
will be kept for you until you are ready to go home. You must claim
your medications before you leave the hospital. If you do not pick-up
your medications within thirty days, they will automatically be
discarded.
Protect Your Dentures and Eyeglasses
If you are a denture wearer, please ask your nurse for a protective
container. Take care to store eyeglasses or contact lenses in their
own cases, and keep track of hearing aids. Oroville Hospital cannot
accept responsibility for breakage of dentures, eyeglasses, hearing
aids, and other such personal items.
Food Service
While you are hospitalized, our team of Registered Dietitians will
arrange your meal plan under the direction of your physician. If
you would like to speak with a Dietitian about your meals or have
special dietary requirements based on cultural or religious practices,
please ask your nurse to arrange a visit from your dietitian.

If
You Have Special Needs

Interpreters
Oroville Hospital recognizes the importance of fostering clear and
thorough communication between patients and healthcare providers.
We offer interpreter services to patients whose primary language
is not English, sign language interpretation for the deaf, and assistive
listening devices for hearing impaired individuals. As a patient
or visitor, you are welcome to use our TDD equipment to communicate
by phone.
Should you need an interpreter, we have on-staff speakers of languages
other than English and access to interpreters for more than 200
languages through a telephone-based language interpretation service. Both
in-house and contracted, certified American Sign Language interpreters
are also available. Alternately, you may elect to have a family
member or friend act as your interpreter.
Please ask any Oroville Hospital staff member for help with interpreter
services, assistive listening devices (including volume-adjustable
telephones), or TDD equipment.
To arrange language or sign language interpretation in advance
of your visit to Oroville Hospital or to one of our outpatient facilities,
please call us at 530.533.8500 or by TDD at 530.533.5109.
Accessibility
We respect the rights and needs of our patients with disabilities.
Wheelchair accessible facilities such as restrooms and drinking
fountains are available throughout Oroville Hospital. Designated
handicapped parking spaces are located near each entrance.
For
Your Safety

Fall Prevention
To protect you from accidental falls and mishaps, our nursing staff
routinely raises hospital bed rails. Please keep bed siderails up
at all times. If you are uncomfortable keeping your siderails raised,
you may sign a waiver of liability.
Hospital stays are often accompanied by changes in physical abilities
as a result of illness, surgery or medication. When getting into
or out of bed, preparing to walk, or moving from bed to chair, please
ask your nurse or nursing assistant for help if you are unsure of
your ability to manage on your own.
Infant and Child Safety
Oroville Hospital uses cribs or beds with siderails as a means of
ensuring the safety of infants and young children. Removing your
child from this protected environment can pose a risk for falls
or other types of injury.
Smoking
Oroville Hospital operates as a smoke-free facility. Smoking is
not permitted in hospital buildings. For the comfort and health
of patients and visitors, please do not smoke within 50 feet of
any hospital entrance or entryway. If you have smoking-related concerns,
please speak with your doctor or nurse.
Personal Electronics
We discourage the use of personal electrical appliances, such as
hair dryers, while you are hospitalized. If you feel that you must
plug an electrical device into a hospital outlet, our maintenance
department is required to conduct a thorough test of your appliance
in order to comply with state and federal laws.
Safety Preparedness Drills
To keep our staff members up-to-date on safety procedures, our hospital
conducts periodic drills. You may hear announcements over the loudspeaker
alerting personnel to fire, disaster or missing child drills. At
regular intervals, we also test our fire alarm system by ringing
alarm bells and closing fire doors. If you hear a safety-related
announcement or alarm, please remain calm and wait for instructions
from a hospital staff member.
Visitors

Oroville Hospital welcomes visitors and recognizes the important
role a friendly face can play in speeding you toward recovery.

Please let us know how we are doing

Going
Home

Discharge
Planning
Our discharge planning team begins making plans for your return
home as soon you enter the hospital. Discharge planners oversee
your transition home to ensure that all of your post-discharge medical
needs are met. Our staff will work with you and your healthcare
providers to arrange for prescriptions, equipment, and home care
services. We can also assist you with placement in a skilled nursing
or residential facility if you require transitional care.
At the Time of Discharge
Be sure to arrange for someone to pick you up from the hospital.
Gather all of your belongings including any valuables and personal
medications you may have given to the nursing staff. Check with
your nurse to confirm any follow-up appointments or outpatient procedures
your doctor may have scheduled for you.
Discharge Medications
Oroville Hospital will assist you with any take-home medications
your doctor has prescribed. If you need to fill a prescription when
leaving, we are happy to phone and/or fax your prescription to a
pharmacy of your choice.
Golden Valley Home Health
Being well enough to go home from the hospital doesn't always mean
you are able to take care of yourself without assistance. Our home
care service provides nursing and rehabilitation services in the
comfort of your own home. Ask your doctor, nurse or discharge planner
about home care benefits for which you may be eligible.
Golden Valley Outpatient Rehabilitation
For those times when your doctor recommends rehabilitative care
after your discharge, Golden Valley Outpatient Rehabilitation offers
physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology services.
Consult your therapist, nurse or discharge planner for more information
on outpatient rehabilitation.
OroLake Home Care Specialties
To help meet your medical equipment needs, OroLake Home Care Specialties
provides items such as walkers, wheelchairs, and oxygen systems,
as well as other medical supplies.
